Blair Waldorf: Headbands you would steal!

It might have been 5 years since the last of Gossip Girl aired, but Blair Waldorf still comes in every conversation. The show might have started with all headlights on Serena Van der Woodsen, but Leighton Meester’s character easily stole the show and became everyone’s favourite character and reason to sticking till the end.

She easily won over people through her scheming, sad puppy eyes, biting one-liners, her raw vulnerability and love for Chuck. Not one to blend in a crowd, every single outfit stood out and became a statement piece. And boy, oh boy, could she pull a headband – any headband.

Blair Waldorf’s Best Outfits from Gossip Girl

If you’ve known me for a while, or have been reading my blog for a while, you’ll know that I love Blair Waldorf from Gossip Girl. I still watch reruns of the show on Netflix to gather some fab wisdom from Ms. Waldorf.

So, this weekend, when I was watching the reruns of the show- I was thinking about pretty everyone’s costumes on the show are, especially Blair. It made obvious sense to write an entire article dedicated to her best looks from the show.

While I’m not the biggest Serena Van der Woodsen fan, she did have a fabulous wardrobe – that I will want to rob, so I’ll when inspired by her outfits do an entire or well, part of a post to her outfits.

The Green Coat

How stunning is this look! This was my favourite look from Blair’s entire selection- in fact I was so obsessed with this green coat- that I actually ended up buying a coat in the same colour- a different style, though.

The most beautiful Elie Saab wedding dress for the much awaited wedding!

This red dress in which she was supposed to go meet the Prince, but ended up running to the train station, to Chuck Bass. And then happened my second favourite scene in the history of the show.

And then this look, even though she was with Lonely Boy. *insert massive eye roll here*

Give her any shade of red in every fabric and she could literally carry it like a Queen that she is. I’m especially fond the dress in net with the boys on it.

And this green dress- because Blair Waldorf can even make a curtain cloth look chic.

I liked the Dior bags and cool french hat that no one but Blair could carry, but most of all, I was a big fan of these jackets she was often wearing so effortlessly.

And even though her wedding to the Prince was nothing but a nightmare, her wedding dress (and tiara) was what dreams are made of.

These two prints are very alike- with similar colour combinations and patterns- but two completely different designs. These are something that I’ll have lots in my wardrobe of.

One of my most favourite looks from the show, this one shoulder, polka-dot dress that she wore in Paris in Season 4.

Seriously, where did the stylists find all these amazing blazers?!129113753_10

Paris-chic. Some of her best looks are from season 4. Interesting!

All this heart-warming dash of yellow!!

Let’s not forget this stunning look-26-leighton-meester-gossip-girl

Or this stripey dress from the steps of the MET.

And all these floral options that are especially pretty.

She even made the granny coat look chic?!

And this pretty number-

Never in a million years would I be able to carry a dress as beautiful as the one below as effortlessly as Leighton Meester’s character does.

And this pink ensemble with a giant bow. Not many people who can carry it as well as Queen B

And finally this black dress from the very first episode. Can we talk about how PRETTY her headband is!

Favourite TV Couples

  1. Monica and Chandler

    Swatiness_Tv Couples-Monica and Chandler

Everyone’s who ever seen Friends have them on their list. A long time ago, my best friend, Sonia and I created an entire list of reasons for everything we know about ‘love’ was from Chander and Monica. Reasons included their characteristics- funny and OCD, friends first, lovers second and the perfect match- they are my favourite TV couple. I don’t know about you, my favourite episode is ‘The One Where Everybody Knows’. ( THEY DON’T KNOW, THAT WE KNOW, THAT THEY KNOW THAT WE KNOW!).

  2. Chuck and Blair

    Swatiness_Tv Couples-Blair and Chuck

When at first they got together- I was weirded out. I thought Blair should be with Nate and not the creepy Chuck Bass. But, come season 2, my opinion changed. Chuck brought out the best and worst of her- and enough to still want to be with her. Blair gave it everything to bring out the best of Chuck. Minus all the expensive presents, dinners, “rich people drama”- the couple was quite realistic when it came to the relationship. I loved when in Season 4 beginning, they’re in Paris at the train station- and Blair drops everything when she finds out Chuck’s there and tells him to come back to New York. I, ESPECIALLY, loved it when they finally got married and how!

  3. Uncle Jesse and Becky

    Swatiness_Tv Couples-Jesse and Becky

I spent a lot of time watching Full House- and while the coolest relationship on the show was of Danny and his cleaning supplies (just kidding, it was Michelle and Uncle Jesse), Uncle Jesse and Becky were a pretty awesome TV couple. They used to support each other’s insanity, careers, goals, family and each other.

  4. Logan and Veronica Mars

    giphy (2)

I was SOOOOOO upset when Duncan ran away with the baby- that definitely meant the end of Duncan and Veronica, but as Logan and Veronica started their relationship- it became pretty clear who she really suited with (read: Logan). Their relationship had a different dynamic- slightly messed up, but it suited their characters. That said, this is one of the best detective shows I’ve seen- you should REALLLY watch it.

  5. Bones and Booth

    Swatiness_Tv Couples-Brennan and Booth

I stuck through all the 12 seasons. I started watching Bones during their 4th season- and couldn’t miss an episode. Every episode, to me, was the most fascinating thing- and I literally wouldn’t do anything for the hour (especially eat when the body was still being “recovered”). Seeley Booth and Temperance ‘Bones’ Brenan’s relationship was the highlight of the show. Of how they eventually went from being partners to a couple.

  6. Ross and Rachel

    Swatiness_Tv Couples- Ross and Rachel

They were on a break, but Ross shouldn’t have slept with the photocopier girl. I wanted to slap the man’s idiot face when he did. And all the missed opportunities of being with Rachel- stupid, stupid man. But, despite all the flights, fights and longing looks they shared- Ross and Rachel were made for each other.

  7. Jane and Rafael

    Swatiness_Tv Couples-Jane and Rafael

I know, I know so many people who supported Jane and Michael- but. I’ve always been Team Rafael. Oh, the man is way too sexy. I wish he didn’t break up with Jane when he did- then they’d still be together. I got on the whole Michael and Jane boat when he recovered from the hospital after the shooting. But, then they went and killed him. So, I swam back on the Team Rafael boat. Rafael and Jane, especially now, have a beautiful relationship and co-parent the cutest toddler, Mateo.

  8. Barney and Robin

    Swatiness_Tv Couples-Robin and Barney

The only reason I stuck with this mind-numbingly silly show, How I Met Your Mother was to watch Barney and Robin get together. Only for the writers to ruin it in the last 3 minutes of the series. Robin and Barney complemented and completed each other in a way nobody else would have.

  9. Schmidt and Cece

    giphy (5)giphy (3)

The best thing about New Girl might be Jessica Day, but the best romance on the show is Schmidt and Cece. The crazy levels that Schmidt went through to be with Cece are brilliant- even crashing her mass Indian “date” thing in an Indian groom’s attire. They have an amazing chemistry, understanding, and relationship.

10 Times you MUST absolutely listen to Blair Waldorf

Take my word for it, Blair Waldorf is always right. I’ve even got a giant frame on my desk that reads- ‘What would Blair Waldorf say?‘ Needless to say, I find myself asking that question more often than I’d like to admit. The woman has something appropriate to say for every occasion. I’ve just listed below the 10 times her advice is spot on!

Also, if you still haven’t seen this show or know who Blair is- I have no words to say to you.

  1. When it comes to following your dreams

  2. When you think of wearing Tights with a Baggy shirt.

Gossip Girl and The Holiday: Two for the cheer

It’s been a weird week. Long, weird, hard, messy week. I’ve been trying to take my mind off things and into more writing and productivity and watching a lot of movies and chick flicks and reading.

Here are the two favourites that made me smile, or I could relate to, or just nice to hear when you’re literally in the middle of a storm.

Iris (The Holiday)

This is the perfect reminder of how our definitions of “love”might not be what actually suits us. While, the Cameron Diaz/Jude Law adventures cracked me up, Kate Winslot’s piercing words made me think. My favourite being the below:

“I understand feeling as small and as insignificant as humanly possible. And how it can actually ache in places you didn’t know you had inside you. And it doesn’t matter how many new haircuts you get, or gyms you join, or how many glasses of chardonnay you drink with your girlfriends… you still go to bed every night going over every detail and wonder what you did wrong or how you could have misunderstood. And how in the hell for that brief moment you could think that you were that happy. And sometimes you can even convince yourself that he’ll see the light and show up at your door. And after all that, however long all that may be, you’ll go somewhere new. And you’ll meet people who make you feel worthwhile again. And little pieces of your soul will finally come back. And all that fuzzy stuff, those years of your life that you wasted, that will eventually begin to fade.”

Blair Waldorf (Gossip Girl)

I don’t know how she isn’t the first person mentioned in the post- because Gossip Girl is literally my favourite show. I’ve watched it religiously and felt all the love, disgust, anger, heartbreak, and perhaps some sassiness along with Blair (and often Chuck, Nate or Serena).

Once men have tasted caviar, it baffles me how they settle for catfish.”

The thing about new beginnings is- that they recquire something else to end.

23 on 23rd!

Today, I’m 23 years old. I am what they refer to as an ‘adult’. Apparently, I was an ‘adult’ some 5 years ago, when I turned 18, they say. Not sure who ‘they’ is. But, I don’t think I got the manual for Adulting. Is there one that everybody receives? Can I subscribe it from somewhere?

This year, unlike 22 birthdays before, I was extremely grumpy and unpleasant about my birthday actually coming. Several reasons contributed to the factor, one being- PMS. Everyone will probably say it was the PMS and the hormones. But, was it?

Let me tell you something about me. I’m a tiny person with the energy of a child high on sugar. Except, I don’t need to be actually high on sugar to have the energy, but God Forbid, when I do have sugar…  Point is, my birthday is probably the most awaited days of the year. Sometimes, I start planning them as early as the night of my birthday when I’m in bed after my fancy party and all the presents open. (I know, I sound like I’m 5 more than 23). I am 23. Still can’t grasp it.

So, this year, I was supposed to behave like an adult. I’m being told continuously to act like a grown up, to show I’m mature. One of them being was to not get too excited about my birthday. Which, my best friend, Cee pointed out is absolutely rubbish and me not being excited about my birthday is like me not being excited about my birthday. I’m sorry, it’s just on such a high scale of things that it cannot be compared to much. See, that’s the kind of person I am. Blair Birthday

I’m like that episode of Gossip Girl (I still love this show!), where Blair Waldorf planned this whole birthday party. The similarity is here- She had such expectations, and when it didn’t go the way she wanted, she had sort-of a meltdown.

I’m 23 years old. I still love to have cake for breakfast (whenever my parents let me). I still live with my parents (which is very common if you’re from the desi households). I have chosen a career path for me, which I’m kinda passionate about, but the bell of unassertive about. I still believe can live on chocolate. I still can’t wear high heels without groaning about the excruciating pain.

If that’s an adult, I’m there. Happy Birthday to me!

An Ideal Match: Women and their Shoes

During that one distressing day when nothing goes your way, when you’re confident has hit the lowest point, when nothing seems to be pretty enough anymore?  That’s when shoes step in. Walking around the town, totally depressed and one look at those beautiful heels and I’m all for it.

Recent studies have shown that a woman’s “shoe obsession disorder” (personally, it’s really not a disorder or obsession but rather a necessity) can really boost her career. Shopping for shoes is an exhilarating experience. These were the lines of a journalist, I’d read somewhere.

Men who aren’t “shoe fetishists” (seriously- who comes up with such terms?), find it hard to swallow and understand the deep relationship a woman and her shoes have.

Swatiness ShoesRemember Cinderella? The one with her glass slipper (clearly a symbol of virginity, by the way), pumpkin ride and rats for horses? Well, it wasn’t that Cinderella’s step sisters and all the other girls in town were after the Prince Charming, they were only in it for the glass slipper. Believe it or not, shoes has always been just something women love. Many actresses, also, confess to owning several pairs of foot wears. One for everything. Be it Keira Knightly, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Kareena Kapoor.

The growth in the sales of shoes is always rising whether come the recession or drought (you are getting the drift right?). Studies and sale reports show that while the sale of everything had hit up a bottom line, being the recession and all, the sale for footwear has gone up compared to earlier years! Shoes can cost a fortune; yet while money itself does not bring happiness, pair of new shoes brings on a kind of exaltation.

Swatiness BlairBut what is about shoes that us women really love? Unlike clothes, shoes have a distinct advantage. Whether you’re fat or thin, short or tall, beautiful or ugly, you can buy all the shoes your heart desires. They are capable of making you feel sexy, elegant or sporty at a single stroke. In other words, feet don’t have hips, feet don’t have thighs. Feet are our friends. High heels make women look more appealing. Wearing them not only makes woman’s legs look longer, but changes her whole posture and make her carry herself differently. Of course, it stands true only if a woman knows how to walk on high heels properly. Making wide steps and having knees and back bent doesn’t make anyone sexier.

Everything has a biological reason, and surprisingly so does the obsession of buying and wearing footwear. First of all, shopping is always such an amazing mood buster! You can be tired, exhausted, angry, hurt or anything, the sun couldn’t shine but you’d know when nothing else is around, shopping is what will stay with you, always. Well, here goes the biological reason- “The neurotransmitter dopamine is released, providing a feel-good high, similar to taking a drug, The dopamine increases until you swipe your debit card.” says Martin Lindstrom, a branding expert. Usually, that’s when the guilt steps in, except when the item you’re purchasing are shoes! “Shoppers rationalize shoes as a practical buy — something they can wear multiple times a week — so they hold on to that pleasurable feeling longer,” says Lindstrom. Buying new footwear stimulates an area of the brain’s prefrontal cortex termed the collecting spot.

Our intimate relationship with shoes begins shortly after we learn to walk. As soon as we want to feel “grown-up,” we slip on a pair of our mother’s shoes, preferably high heels, instantly heightening our sense of what it means to be female. And then what happens? We grow up and get to be the same size as Mummy and our personality begins to assert itself with the first independent purchase of shoes. As adults, we ask shoes to be our representatives. At any given moment, they are indicators of our age, mood and desires. Whenever my mom and I go for “shoe shopping spree”, my dad just shakes his head and keeps on murmuring, “This is insane”. And when after we buy what we require and we didn’t, he just sorts of ignore our little obsession. After all, he can’t really do anything about family, can he?

Swatiness ShoesWhen you’re also a woman, what are the first two things you notice about another woman? It is the clothes and the footwear. The type of footwear you wear defines the type of person you are, sort of like character analysis. Collecting different types of footwear, types include color, heel length, design, etc, etc. isn’t anything wrong. Buying a different type of footwear stimulates in us that mini-adrenaline rush similar to that of a stamp collector when acquires a rare find.

To sum it up, there are so many outfits we wear so repeating shoes isn’t quite a possibility now, is it?
